Two of a Kind: Using the Paired Skills from Music for Children Volume I
The two outer sections of Music for Children Volume I contain many song arrangements and instrumental pieces that Orff-inspired teachers have loved and taught to students again and again. Less familiar to some is the material in the middle section titled “Rhythmic and melodic exercises.” These pages contain a wealth of musical material that can unlock children’s creativity while developing musical skills and concepts, and they represent the core of the Schulwerk. It was Orff and Keetman’s intention that teachers continue using this material even as the children work into the later volumes of MFC. Participants in this workshop will experience the paired skills in Part II of Volume I through singing, speech, instruments, and movement while reinforcing the elements of music and exploring ways to feature the students’ own musical material in performances.
Please bring a soprano recorder, a hand drum, and a small barred instrument to the session!
